Life Is Strange 2

Dontnod Entertainment came out of nowhere with a FREE episode of Life Is Strange 2 called The Awesome Adventures of Captain Spirit. In this game, you take control of Chris Eriksen, a ten-year-old boy on what he expects to be a typical Saturday morning.

From the offset, it’s hard not to be charmed by Chris’ playful sense of adventure and vivid imagination as he dreams of becoming a superhero. Chris has come up with his own, Captain Spirit. Captain Spirit goes on adventures and even battles the evil Mantroid.

As you guide Chris through this long Saturday morning, you learn more about his tragic backstory of his family. Chris’ father is struggling with alcoholism and the loss of his wife. Which in return makes Chris' dad kind of a dick toward Chris, but that's just my opinion.

I love the Life is Strange games as they are an open world with tons of activities for players to do and in any order the player chooses. In this episode, you go on a treasure hunt, build a superhero costume, and face off against super villains. But hidden away in some of them are clues about Chris’ backstory and links to how Captain Spirit ties into the Life Is Strange universe. Plus the developer included plenty of hints about Life Is Strange 2.

Just like in the previous LiS games, the best way to approach Captain Spirit is with a sense of exploration, checking out every nook and cranny, trust me.

With Captain Spirit, Dontnod Entertainment shows us that while we’ve said goodbye to Max and Chole, there’s still plenty of reasons to be excited about the future of the Life is Strange universe. They’ve planted the seeds and given us plenty of reasons to care for Chris and to be interested in where his story is going. And as a FREE download, it’s the perfect way to introduce long-term fans, as well as new fans, and ease them into what the future may hold for Life Is Strange 2.

So, if you’re a fan of the series, then Captain Spirit is a must-play and an absolutely essential experience to fill the void where Max and Chloe’s unforgettable story in Arcadia Bay took place.
